i know that the keycodes are right (BS -> 22 and Del ->107) but i haven't looked 
at the output of "xmodmap -pk"...

however most of the how-tos suggested using xmodmap to alter the mapping of 
the keys, but each suggestion i tried didn't seen to work... :(

fortunately or otherwise, it is a global X problem, not related to any one specific 
application... (ie. console is fine, X is wrong everywhere - from login to mozilla)
