[SLUG] Telstra Big Pond Direct ADSL Problems

I have recently been testing the E-smith(4.1.2) linux product for
small business use. One particular aspect that I would like to use is the
Raoring Penguin PPPoE software for broadband ADSL access. I am currently
using an internal DSL card made by D-Link (DSL-100). We have tested this on
the Telstra Big Pond Home network ( no fixed IP address ) and the card and
software work very well. However, for the small business installtion I would
like to use a static IP address, which is offered in the Big Pond Direct
product. It is with this new network access that I cannot get the ADSL
access to work. I have spoken to the Telstra engineers, who tell me that the
access methodology is the same between the two networks, only the one
provides the same ip address each time.

After reviewing the debugging file it seems that the remote end is
sending a PADT request to the client, immediately after the client attempts
to authenticate with the remote end. If I intentionally use the incorrect
password, the remote end provides me with a CHAP athentication fail
notification. The correct credentials do not get me this far, it terminates
the links prior to sending either an CHAP authentication pass or fail.
