Hey I'd be very interested in how the XF86Config file works,
especially with respect to Modelines. Any major differences with
between XFree-3.3.6 and XFree-4.x.x would be good.
I have a 60MHz oscilloscope we could hook up to demonstrate the
changes in video signal with different settings too. Depending on how
deep people wanted to get into it I could do the basics on how a video
signal becomes an image on the screen, difference between monitor's
and TV's. Some of the mystery is given away by turning your brightness
right up so you see the flyback trace on a black screen, but don't do
it for too long. Modern monitors might not let you go that far.

P.S. That reminds me... I should have a go at repairing some old
monitors of mine.
