this as i found out is a redhat thing. The default mail-handler for redhat
is procmail so you dont need a .forward file. I think the term is MDA. Mail
delivery agent.

I don't use a .forward at all. Just the procmail recipes. Here is part
of what I use below:

.procmail/rc.maillists
# This Procmail file contains the list of all recipes for filtering.
# ML: 11th April 1998
# SLUG Newsgroup
# --------------

* ^TOslug-digest
.In.SLUG

:0:
* ^TOslug
.In.SLUG

:0:
* ^Subject:.*SLUG
.In.SLUG

# Everything else goes straight to INBOX as normal.
