[SLUG] re: icmp questions
Morning,
Recently my connection got hammered by alot of the following problems.
Sun Jun 25 13:18:44 2000; ICMP; ppp0; 56 bytes; from 12.124.106.162 to
203.41.122.100; dest unreach (host)
Sun Jun 25 13:32:25 2000; ICMP; ppp0; 56 bytes; from 129.250.30.213 to
203.41.122.100; time exceeded
And I got lots of these, not from the one host, but as far as I can tell
many and many hosts. I'd say it was someones idea of a DoS.
My question is, what can one do about such things apart from reporting it. I
have reported it to my uplink provider to investigate, as I get charged for
the traffic. And when I reported it to them at the time, they couldn't
really do anything. Good old Telstra.
What is somethings I can do to help from my end of the link? Would a router
help the issue, ie a cisco router with ip/ip firewall ios help?
Feel free to email me directly, as I won't see the list traffic until I make
my way home tonight.
Thanks in advance.
Michael
