Re: [SLUG] Distributions

I use RH 6.2 now...(started out with a download some tyme ago, moved to
Slackware, then tried RH, Caldera and just recently Corel). Reason for me
using RedHat is simply that I don't have the time to upgrade my machine
manually anymore... I just basically await for APC to release their Linux
mini-book and run the upgrade option on installation, hence my system is
always configured how I want and completely updated every 6 odd months.
Although I would still prefer to do what most ppl are starting to do now,
BYO
(build your own) from scratch (ie: source), >>OR<< do a base installation of
a distro, strip out all the gunk I don't need and build from there... both
of these are VERY time consuming, but a tweaked linux system is real nice...
unfortunately I aint got time to do this any more...
In terms of customisation / configuration... Most distro's I've used, have
adequately supplied packages for majority of uses, and can get up and
running in a preferred state almost straight from installation.
In a nutshell. I aint too particular which distro I use, as long as it has a
linux kernel, then I'm happy.
In terms of using libraries from other distros, environments (ie: glibc,
gnome, kde, qt, imlib... etc...). it is all achievable and configurable,
provided you have the time and patience to set it all up.

Cheers
John.
