How are you getting it to fax from StarOffice?
I remember seeing a wrapper that parsed the output for a certain string
followed by a number, such as "Fax : 02 9555 5555". It would then send the
fax to the extracted number.
You could also try automating it via email where you send the file to a
special email address, the subject is the phone number and it extracts the
attachment and faxes it. Depending on the attachment type it would do the
right thing. You could use the print filters in redhat for this. It would
reply on you being able to automate taking a star office file and turning
it into postscript.
Whatever you do, I am sure Perl will be involved somewhere (grin).

P.S. Best thing I ever did was make one of my modems my incoming fax
number and get it to convert each page to jpeg and then email me the
pages. I can get a fax no matter where I am now. Makes me sort of whish I
got more faxes.
