RE: [SLUG] Distributions
To give you a slightly different perspective ....
To me the distribution versions are important as I do a lot of work with
commercial s/w on Linux. Right from Oracle, DB2 to WebSphere and MQ. Most of
these s/w come out on RedHat first.
At a strech I can make it work on other distributions, yes, but then I am
lazy and I just use whatever is recommended.
But then, I am also curious and like to live life on the bleeding edge.
Thus, I opt for Mandrake (7.1). Mandrake is the closest clone of RH, and so
compatibility is there.
But, IMHO, Mandrake is the most polished, well put-together distribution in
the marketplace. It has the quality that even some commercial s/w can only
dream off and the latest version, 7.1 has got to be seen, just to work out
how well an open source team have done their work.
Plus, they bundle in all of the latest stuff .....
