I don't know about 'best', but if you want lots of up to the minute
stuff I don't think you can beat Mandrake - first distro to have Reiser
FS support, XFree 4, always got the latest kernel at release, basically
always seems to have the latest possible versions of everything. You
could of course argue that this was a disadvantage - maybe less stable,
less secure etc - but actually they seem to do a remarkable job of both
staying up to date and maintaining stability. And don't take too much
notice of the way they present themselves as 'newbie friendly' (and so
perhaps beneath the notice of a 'power user') - certainly they are easy
to use, but don't think that they do this at a cost of user power etc.
Very easy to install and get started with (pretty much stick the CD in
stuff), but all the power is still there if you want it. If you're
considering trying RH 6.2, you might like to try Mandrake 7.1 as well -
it'd actually probably be interesting to do a comparison between the
two, what with Mandrake's origins as a Red Hat derivative (not any more
an accurate description). You could see where Mandrake triumphs over Red
Hat. :-)
