I have only used the \include to bring in text material but
I suppose you should be able to include TeX commands as
well. 

Cut down the TeX file you are trying to include to a smaller
set of simple commands/text that 
do work and expand up to include more from there. Then you
should be able to narrow down what TeX bit doesn't work.
Also what is the actual error message? That will give you a
clue as to what LaTeX is barfing on.
