RE: [SLUG] A Sydney Uni SLUG chapter?
Hi Chuck,
I'm a part time U. Syd. Geosciences student (doing MSc in Cave Mineralogy)
so I don't frequent campus much.
However when I did bother to try my student account in April I noted that
AARNET was on the 3c list, not the free list.
Not that it matters terribly... I have been mostly using the library
services for my Uni work and I get internet access through my employer.
I was disappointed to see that you had to pay (a little bit) for a Unix
account and all the free for use PCs in the computer access room (eg Madsen)
were running Windows.
A few decades ago at UNSW all you needed to do to get a Unix account was
ask. The service was free.
What would be nice is if free Linux accounts were available for students;
possibly they could be run on PCs that didn't need as much RAM etc as the
ones that they presently use for Windows.
Regards,
Jill.
