One other thing that almost but doesn' quite work is running a VMware machine
on a VNC desktop. The mouse in the vncviewer doesn't track quite right. But
otherwise this works really well. I've even done this from home via a 33k modem
though I don't run enlightenment on the vnc desktop or the virtual machine
cause all the way cool stuff just overloads the vnc protocol. Simple colours
and not to many of them and the system is quite useable. (well quicker than
getting into the car and driving to the office anyway). If the virtual machine
is running 'doze I often vnc to it rather than it's parent desktop which tends
to mess with your head a bit but works somewhat better over the modem.
I use VMware at work everyday and it is a fantastic product for creating a
complete virtual PC. I've run RH & Suse Linux and 'Doze in the virtual machine
and everything works. I've currently got two virtual machines running at the
moment to test out PPTP tunneling and IPMASQ. Apart from the two of them
constantly competing for the CD with my real machine (must get a second CD-ROM)
they work fine, talk to each other and the real machine over the net as if
they were three seperate computers.
VMware is not a real good solution for just running that annoying 'doze
application that I need to "intergrate" into the rest of the office.
Having to start and stop a complete machine is slow and clumsy (even with
suspend to disk), and you have to samba share to get the file attachment
from e-mail to the 'doze application blah blah blah..
Now if I could just get WINE to run word.....
