RE: [SLUG] Dell + Notebook + Linux - Latest
Yeah, my name is Hamid too when I've had a few too much to drink.
What is there to be certified...really... Can't be that much.

Subject: [SLUG] Dell + Notebook + Linux - Latest
Oh dear.
Another bit of news on my futile quest..... I rang Dell again today (no
response from my e-mail surprise surprise), and spoke to a "senior" sales
guy at Dell who was in fact quite helpful - Hamid I believe his name was.
He was stumped a little trying to explain that while the particular model
notebook I wanted _was_ available with Linux pre-loaded in the US, I still
couldn't get it here.
The reasoning was something along the lines of "it hasn't been certified
for this region". I'm left thinking to myself: "Oh crap! They're gonna
take the Linux notebook into .... the SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE!!! Its gonna
blowwwww!!!! <BOOM!!!>" I was even on hold, before he confirmed that while
indeed I could not get a Dell notebook with Linux unless I flew to the US,
I should just get the Windows _98_ verison and install Linux myself.
