Yes pellets.

Shades of Bjelke-Peterson feeding the 'chooks' (these were
his press conferences).

Perhaps to extend it: pullets, which eat pellets and slugs.

Going further, if we used pearls, then they would be cast before
swine. Thus the choice between the pighouse and the chookhouse.
