I believe something like that is done in the general access student
computing labs here at Sydney Uni. The machines boot a Linux kernel
over the network, and that has some program that rewrites the NT image
on the local hard drive, and then reboots that.
Now, I've just got to convince them to skip the "install NT" stage :-)
