Hi all.
I have been playing around with getting maildirs to work (under RedHat 6.2)
I have a patched imap server courtesy of http://www.davideous.com/
David's setup patches imap to use maildirs in the users home directory.
IMAP will look for new mail in ~/Maildir
I have a conversion script that will create maildir compatible directories
form old style mbox files.
OK, all is working OK on the IMAP side of things. (much better than the
standard imap setup) large mailbox's are no longer a problem. I have given
up trying to get users to delete old messages, and have resigned myself to
trying to accomodate the rather idiotic habit of people having 60 Meg+
inbox's. I will look at putting some sort of quota or reporting system on
them later.
My question is in the mail delivery side of things. I have a patched
procmail that will deliver to maildirs, thus I do not need to rip out
sendmail (yes I know , it probably is the time to learn qmail).
With maildirs, I notice there are three subdirectories created in the
maildir: tmp, new, cur
I take it, procmail needs to deliver into the "new" directory. Are there
any traps / tricks with this structure? There is also a file called
.uidvalidity
In a more general sense, I use procmail myself to sort incoming messages
into folders. Those of you who use maildirs or qmail, how do you accomplish
this? do you use a special procmail?
Any suggestions or personal experiences would help me to know I am on the
right track.
t.i.a Ian
