RE: [SLUG] RAID

Hi Howard,

The patch you'll need varies on the controller make/model and the version of
your kernel. You can probably find it from Adaptecs page somewhere or a
google search etc. If you're using a DPT Millenium V then I probably have a
2.2.14 patch someplace...

I had a lot of fun with this and I'm sure there are better ways... the
process was roughly:

*) Install and configure RAID hardware.
*) Install a temporary IDE drive.
*) Install the distro of your choice to the IDE
*) Patch the kernel on the IDE so you can mount the raid array
*) Install your distro again (from within linux, not boot disks) to your
RAID partitions
*) Copy over your patched kernel from IDE to RAID. Watch out for broken
links.
*) Make a boot floppy with your new kernel
*) Remove IDE drive
*) Boot on floppy, mount RAID partition and reinstall lilo with patched
kernel
*) Boot on RAID. Recompile kernel for good measure.

Good luck! ;)

Cheers,
Marty
