Re: [SLUG] Red Hat slagging

Sorry, but my 2.2 cents worth....

I have used Linux since 1993. I have used many different distributions
over that time. I saw Red Hat start, saw RPM released and saw consequent
development efforts initiated or contributed to by Red Hat. I agree with
Jamie that Red Hat _is_ in no way comparable to Micro$oft.

C'mon guys... last time _I_ checked Red Hat was an _open source_ company.
Hmmm.... yes, that really makes them similar to Micro$oft, not. Funny
that you can _fix_ the bugs in any part of their operating system, and
contribute the patches back to them. Funny that you can download all their
work for free too hey! Sounds like an evil company to me.

In my opinion Red Hat have made major contributions across the board:

- They have made real in-roads towards making "open source" and
"Linux" (more of) a house-hold name.

- They have demonstrated innovation and high technical competitence in
many of the areas they have contributed. If their technology was so
_crap_, why is it that the Mandrakes of the world "borrow" from them? -
Last time I looked, there was still that uncanny resemblence.

- They have advocated the adoption of open-source, put their money where
their mouth was, and began doing back in 1994 what other now so-called
"Linux" companies would have laughed at.

I'm sick of people saying Red Hat is like Microsoft. Look at the facts.
