Speaking of car crashes, is anyone else hear old enough to remember
when the economists measured our standard of living by the gross
domestic product (GDP)?

Until someone pointed out that the GDP included the cost of all those
car crashes, repairs, cost of ambulances, hospitals and emergency
services personnell, so it was kind of hard to argue that and
increasing GDP meant that our standard of living was going up.
