Ya, I have found this.  If you leave it open it will behave itself, but I
have taken to closing it as it keeps trying to delete some IMAP files that
don't exist anyway and the error warnings keep pissing me off, so I close
it, but this is when the problem seems to arise.

I guess I will just have to get down to sorting out the IMAP problem and
go back to leaving it running.
