I know this probably isn't helpful, but this does not happen on my
machine.  I use StarOffice pretty roughly (15~ spreadsheets open at a
time), and open and close it numerous times over a day.  It crashes maybe
once every 2 weeks, but has never had a problem killing itself cleanly on
exits/crashes.
