I've thought about that myself, but I'm not running a business
on this, so the small downtime doesn't bother me too much. I do
run my own mail and web servers, for convenience, and use a
dynamic DNS system that has been kindly provided by one of the
other BPA clients.

One possibility a little short of the dedicated line for fixed IP
that I've been toying with is to make use of the (free-ish) web
hosting capability, with links from there to my own machine for
dynamic/cgi stuff. (Hosted content updated automatically whenever
the IP address changes...)

Should work, but be aware that BPA insist that you smart-relay
through their mail server. Well, they've been talking about
insisting on it. Every now and then someone mentions that
they're successfully sending mail directly to the world, and
someone else says that they aren't. Since there's only on of
me, I use BPA's servers for both incoming and outgoing mail.

Sounds fine. In fact, if you can get a real delegation for your
fixed IP addresses, you should be able to provide your own DNS
PTR record that points to your cable address.
