RE: [SLUG] Linux Terminal Server: Creating RAM disk during startup sequence.
I'm surprised you can do anything at all without /proc mounted.
It contains the PID of all the processes presently running.
I guess initially you would only have sched and init (procs 0 and 1) but
they still need to go somewhere, and all the other software would be
expecting them to be in /proc.
That's my rough suggestion as to "why".
