Hahahaha...!

Q&D definition (I couldn't resist replying to your post, even if my
knowledge here is flakey): endian-ness describes which is the most
significant bit in a CPU's word.

I'm sure someone else will be able to give you a more
example-filled description... :)

Supplementary question: What sort of operations would be affected
by the difference between big-endian and little-endian machines?
