My response is ... "Good on them".
At least there is more competition on the office productivity front for
Linux. At the end of the day, I really don't care how they do it as long as
it is functional, stable and gives users an alternative to M$.
If you look at the history of these beasts, they have gone thro DOS, Win
3.1x and Win32 based API development and there is a lot of baggage they have
and it will be a huge task to move all of them to native posix/toolkit
calls.
If they can get away by improving winelib and doing it, it is just going to
benefit a lot more of the community. All said and done, the installed base
of Windows s/w is huge!! If some of that s/w comes on to a more stabler OS
then ....
