I've found VNC to be a useful substitute for any of these,
and free.  Its protocol is marginally less efficient than
the X.11 protocol but over a LAN it runs a dream.

You might also like to take into account that Citrix have
announced (but not released) something called UnixFrame.
This will run X.11 apps over the ICA protocol, which is
very efficient.  I'm not sure if it will be available on
Linux initially, but indications so far are positive.
