[SLUG] Needed FAST: A small Database / reporting system.

Hi All,

One of my clients has been left in the lurch by his software house.  Their
new Y2K compliant system that has been running for some time is missing a
vital component that the software house says will be ready in March.  As I
am not a code cutter,

Onsite we have a SCO system, and possibly (if needed) a Linux system.

We need to input data into a simple menu based database and run a summary
report.  This happens on a weekly basis.

The following is a description of the required system (simplified)

About 40 customers will order (per week) a total of 1000 item from an
inventory of 20 different items.
Each customer pays a different price for each item.  There is also about
three fixed charges that maybe charged to a customer on a per weekly basis
(akin to an account keeping charge)

All that is needed is to be able to produce a transaction report spanning a
range of dates with each transaction (with an associated reference number)
and a total.  This is needed for billing.

EG:

Customer X.............period 1/1/2000 to 7/1/2000
    widget1............................
        1/1/2000    2    Ref#3123
        2/1/2000    4    Ref#2344
    TOTAL           6    at $23 each = $138
    widget2............................
        1/1/2000    4    Ref#3125
        2/1/2000    4    Ref#2347
    TOTAL           8    at $40 each = $320

CustomerX........................... TOTAL = $458.00

And that's it.  Nothing fancy, no GUI crap as it is a data entry (using
numeric keypad) job.

Any suggestions? which database has a quick and easy forms creator?
