[SLUG] Newfangled mice and Xfree

I've got a couple of new, unfancy, inexpensive mice which work fine using
"gpm -t ms" - so GPM treats it as a 3-button Microsoft mouse. But I can't
get the middle button to work with Xfree.

I notice that gpm can be used to relay mouse events to the X server. Does
anyone use that feature? How well does it work? Any other advice?

[I've tried the Emulate3Buttons and ChordMiddle options.]
