[ProgSoc] Session timeouts on Redhat Linux ttys
Anybody seen the following and/or know how to get around it:
I've got a Redhat Enterprise Linux 3 ES box that people telnet into to
run a database application (unfortunately they do have to use telnet
because of the terminal emulator they use - and I don't get to choose
what terminal emulator they use either).
The login shell that is assigned to these users is bash (although I've
tried tcsh and it does similar things).
What happens is that after a period of a few minutes, the connection
will drop and they have to login again. This causes issues with having
to remove the locks from the database because of the unexpected dropout.
Is there a server-side setting that controls this sort of thing?
For tcsh I've changed the 'autologout' variable to 0 to no avail.
I can see in PuTTY there's a setting to enable keepalives, something
which appears to work - but I've got no say in what the other people
use (and the other terminal emulators don't have a keepalive setting).
TIA,
Phil.
