[ProgSoc] Linux for year 10s?
Heyall,
I'm about to launch into a couple of lessons on linux for my year 10 VET
(Vocational) IT class. The plan of attack to date is to create a
one-or-two floppy distribution for each student... and that's about it.
Questions include:
1) What is a good floppy-based distribution where students can keep
changes they make on the floppy, and also support recent hardware (most
importantly Intel Pro/100 NICs). 2.4 kernel would b good. (Live-CDs are
out of the question as the computers lack CD drives).
2) What sort of tasks do you think are valuable to learn? THe scenario I'm
considering using is that each student is running an ISP and the
webserver/something-server is running on linux, and they have to configure
it to do such and such. This would firstly involve learning the
commandline, text-editor, and configuration files. But what basic linux
skills would you find valuable as an employer?
3) Traps for young players?
4) Something else, but I've forgotten now.
Adios,
vik
