[ProgSoc] Win2000 Spiking CPU Usage
Hi,
I am experiencing the following problem: every 3 to 5 seconds the CPU usage
goes from 0 or 1% up to 10-15%. According to the Windows Task Manager, the
offending process is the System process.
I have Windows 2000 Pro Service Pack 2 on a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4200. The
installation was done from scratch by me, ie not from the factory. There are
no Toshiba applications installed. The problem occurs from bootup, ie no
applications running.
When the spike occurs, it slows everything down. For instance, WinAmp slows
for a second or two,
which is very annoying.
I have tried uninstalling the virus scanner (Sophos) and other similar
things but to no avail.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Jay.
