[ProgSoc] Java/Web front end to EIP

I've been asked to create an EIP for our intranet at work (rather than the
easy solution of buying one) Now I've got the CMS to manage the documents,
but I need to create the web front end in Java.  The front end has to have
the portlets like excite.com and the slashboxes of slashdot.  Does anyone
know (a) and open source implimentations, or (b) a resource to visit for
this type of framework.
