I'll certainly believe you there, but I do have to ask, how at risk is
Progsoc? I mean, I can't imagine that many people want to hack
in and
steal all our.... what do we have that isn't public domain anyway?

I agree it would be far simpler to break into socs and it would not
have the bandwidth limiter that we enjoy (slow machine running
small banwidth connection to socs network).
Then again the principle of because i can has always had more to
do with hacking than logic so i do agree we should be at least
cautious. However perhaps on the progsoc homepage could be
links to ftp equivilents etc. to make it easier for the people who
perhaps do not know as much about the security of using various
connections etc. or who like me are probably too lazy to type in
ssh AND ftp (or ssl AND ftp for that matter) into a search engine.
