two ways,
a) look at the traffic as it flows through the ITD machines
(slirp has distinctive content and flow properties).
b) log into ftoomsh and see what you are running. yes, some
ITD staff members have progsoc accounts.
how do i know this? well i used to do exactly this. why the
policy? well at the time the policy first made it was out of concern
of the wastage of precious system resources. however these days with
faster machines and networks im fairly certain it doesnt do much
harm. i was one of the people who advocated this policy in '93. im
fairly certain that it is now engraved in stone because changing
policy is just too difficult, rather than for any reason of resource
shortages.
