AFAIK, master/slave makes little or no difference to performance. In
this case, I doubt the 2x cdrom would be noticed, no matter where it
was in the system. If you had a cd-writer, then you'd ensure it was
located on its own IDE channel - and/or you'd ensure that whatever
you dumped data to it from (be it disk or CDROM), was also on its
own channel, or at least, on a channel that didn't suffer contention,
or, more to the point, not the same channel that the writer was on.
Depending on your usage patterns, you might find some performance
benefits from relocating one of your IDE hdd's onto the secondary IDE
channel anyway, and the highspeed CDROM on the same channel as
the lesser used disk. Note that lesser used doesn't necessarily mean
the non-boot disk.
