RE: [ProgSoc] buying computers




Why not ditch linux/bsd and go with Solaris for x86 - it doesn't come with
very much (not even a compiler). You can download precompiled binaries for
Solaris from www.sunfreeware.com or if you do want to learn, you can compile
what you want yourself - obviosly you need to install a precompiled gcc
before you compile anything though :).

THe complete idiots guide has left me feeling more inclined to go with
non-bsd unixs.  As for xenix, afaik, it isn't really in use, and if i want
to use microsoft stuff, i'll use windows :).  Minux, Linux was created to
be a "Minux better than Minux", so i'll use linux :).
