[ProgSoc] sparc 2000 machine
If anyone is round UTS today and wants to help me lug some
gear around, I would appreciate it. email me.
I have the disc drive units from those sparc machines and
some of the other odds and ends (most of whatever would come
off easily).
There are still two big machines that need moving...
If the plan is to move the stuff on Friday, that is OK,
I might be able to help if I can take time off work.
A lifter truck will be needed -- a ute or van will not
be enough. The minimum would be a 2 tonne truck with a
hydraulic lifter at the back... the machines weight about
200kg even when stripped down because there is no
easy way to get the power supply units out. They do roll but
not easily -- it would require two people to move them
around on rollers and there is no way to lift them into
a van or ute without a crane or something.
It looks pretty easy to park the truck out the back
by reversing it up the driveway and then lowering the tail
lifter. Then we can use the lift in the building to
move it to the loading dock and the only hard places
are a few small bumps which are along the way to the
driveway (even getting this thing over a 20mm bump is
going to be a bit of work). Probably gardening gloves
or similar would be a good idea because you will have to
grab the steel plates, they are not very sharp but
could cut the hands to some extent.
Who can definitely help on Friday? It is usually necessary
to book these trucks in advance... that means book it
today otherwise we can forget about Friday.
