Can I suggest the `R' package (search for CRAN) which is fully programmable,
supports very flexible graphics output, knows how to handle large arrays
of data (and manipulate such data), also has various statistical regression
routines, is actively supported, has high quality documentataion,
is GPL, and runs on just about every unix platform, and Microsoft win-32
and maybe even mac-os.
