OK well here's where we need some constructive ideas -- if we don't save
the images, how do we find out when things "go wrong" in the room, short
of a temperature alarm scripted to some SMS alert or something?  That
still doesn't help if people steal things like last year.  But, if we do
save the images, should we use hard disk space, or VHS tape, or what?

Of course, but the idea is to use that processing power to make
medium-quality low-bandwidth, not high-quality high-bandwidth images.

Yes but it's a start and we've more or less been saying we'd do it for a
year now.  I suppose once we get that underway, we can get a motorised pan
& scan happening remotely, and point it into the hallway or outside.  I'd
suggest the UTS Tower but after taking a good look at it, the windows
don't suit themselves to a big game of Tetris.
