RE: [ProgSoc] MS General Manager thinks Linux developers aren't professionalco ders

I know I am not going to be popular saying this, but I am
having a crappy day at work and I haven't had a rant on this
list in a while. :P

I fail to see what your subject has to do with the article.

"We are professional code writers. We like people who write
code. That's great that they are out there...writing Linux
code. More power to them. But we are a commercial software
company. We stand behind our products. "

I can't see where he actually says anything about Linux
coders other than side-stepping the question altogether. If
anything he seems reluctant to talk about non-windows
related questions, passing it off that he is standing behind
his own companies products and commercial ventures. I
suppose it is possible that one might take it that he
considers Microsoft the professional coder and "they"
aren't, but I find that difficult to do and only after
having my "minute of hate" against Microshat. Which all
brings me to my next couple of poorly phrased and almost
unrelated points...

I have noticed that the Windows Vs Linux battle is reaching
a whole new high in mis-information.. on both sides. The
Microsoft Propaganda Machine vs. Linux Zealots. Apart from
being tired of reading every second article about either of
them, I am getting even more tired of having to explain the
meaning of all the sensational "headlines" that people are
producing to others who soley go on the mass media. The most
recent case in point "Windows going Open Source". My
understanding of that whole thing (and I am not alone) was
that after/during the interview Gates made a comment about
the DOJ Decision and what Microsoft might do and he jokingly
said that he'd make Windows open source if it would get the
DOJ off his back. The journalists went wild and the next day
you had it as headline IT news. Funnily enough you got it in
different flavours as well.

I think IT news has reached the hollywood stage of
journalism and reporting and is still coming down off the
Y2K hype.

Maybe I am wrong.. I usually am about a lot of things. But
is anyone else getting tired of the rants?

Ok.. I have to go and get ready for the next wave of GST
Ready Software stories which are starting to flood in.
