RE: [ProgSoc] umm... i wanna stick a webserver on a machine somewhere..

I still maintain that while unlimited web-browsing is nice..
people shouldn't be going around saying unlimited "internet
access" since free-online only allow http type traffic
through.

I am still waiting for a better "silver bullet".

As for free-online I don't really see them as caring too
much, they are funded by the advertising dollars of the
webpage producers that seek to take advantage of a
collective pool of surfers. If you do manage to use it for
other purposes and get other people to join in then
Free-Online may really only consider it an irritation until
it reaches the point that the cost of traffic outstrips the
advertising money.. although the increased traffic may make
free-online look more attractive to snag more advertisers.
*shrug*

I think free-online is a great idea if I want to read the
online newspapers, do banking, look up movie times and
such.. but a complete internet experience it aint. :P

But.. free is free so we can't complain.

"The basic problem for Lawrence was that he was lazy. He had
figured out that everything was much simpler if, like
Superman with his X-ray vision, you just stared through the
cosmetic distractions and saw the underlying mathematical
skeleton. Once you found the math in a thing, you knew
everything about it, and you could manipulate it to your
heart's content with nothing more than a pencil and a
napkin." Cryptonomicon, Neal Stephenson
