phoenix technologies (merged with award software - pple that make computer bios - the stuff you see at bootup)will be adding advertisements to the pc's rom chip so that when you boot you will see some lame ad for stupid ass companies *sigh* - read it all and go sign the petition against at:

read the bottom of that page (talkback section)
this is my favorite "reaction" :
Name: James Lee
Location: Austin
Occupation:
DON'T REBOOT. DON'T USE WINDOWS.
Basically, Phoenix sees a good cents (pun intended) because people ended up having to reboot often, and so they can sell that space.
Well, if you use an Operating System that does not require you to reboot every now and then, it wouldn't bother. Don't use one that gives you the Blue screen of death often. Use one that runs for days and days and
months and years like Linux, or FreeBSD or Solaris or OS2. The former three are all free for personal use. You will hardly see it and it wouldn't bother you. And the advertisers who pay money to do that will just be plain wasting money. Economics works!
