Unfortunately, Telstra insists on not using a prefix protocol for dialling
numbers with a particular override, the only exception being 1831 being
functionally identical to *31. But then they insist on charging $5 if you
change your CND status more than once every 6 months ... really, they
could make it automatic like Call Waiting if they wanted to. But for Call
Waiting they could implement 1843 as a prefix if they wanted to, too.
And now that I've made the OOTC ...

I changed my local call service to Optus the other day, mostly because
Telstra cut the InflexiPlan rate to the same as Optus offers. Before I
had even received any correspondence from Optus to say welcome, Telstra
had sent me an "Oh no, please come back" letter, together with a form to
change local and STD calls to Telstra ... and the sting in the fine print
is a $15 surcharge to transfer your debt from the other carrier.
The cheek ... save your money, buy some Telstra shares.
