I'm pretty sure they are. You have to do something funky to force the
modem not to wait for a dial tone, as the US dial tone is different to
the Australian dial tone. There is a Hayes command to do it - if you
can't find it let me know.  You will get the device Austel approved
before using it, I assume ;-)
