[ProgSoc] exec in C

warning: very rusty C coder (oh ok, i'll admit it; i'm just shit at C)

how can i call a system command (or another program) from within C?
it's under Linux, so can i use exec() ?

the program i want to call is FTP, so i want it to be rather interactive,
ie: pass FTP the commands and, for example,  recieve the file listing that
it outputs.

I have bad feeling i can't what i'm proposing...pls help
