I know very little about the specifics of the ET4000 driver. Most of my
XFree installs have been a mix of voodoo and luck and none of them with
that chip.

I think that XFree is long overdue for a serious overhaul, but lacking
the time and expertise, I live with it.

Ctrl+Alt+BackSpace will kill the xserver. However, if you have xdm
running, it'll just restart, which doesn't buy you much.

Assuming that you don't have an external serial terminal (or spare PC to
emulate one), you can switch to the other virtual consoles with
Ctrl+Alt+F1, Ctrl+Alt+F2, etc., which corresponds with Alt+F1, Alt+F2
etc., in text mode.
