RE: PART-TIME WORK SUPPORTING A COMPUTER NETWORK FOR A SMALL ENVIRONMENTAL
CONSULTING COMPANY

Our Network
Our network was recently installed by an external IT consultant. It is based
on a single NT server. Connected to the server are 2 modems for network
faxing and Internet services, a DAT drive for back-up, a printer and 16 port
hub. We currently have 8 users connected to the hub. Each user has a Pentium
133 machine with a 1GB hard drive. Each of these runs Microsoft Office
Professional in a Windows 95 environment. The only applications currently
operated as network applications are a typing tutor (Typequick) and an time
monitoring system (Timeslips). A common filing system also resides on the
server facilitating easy back-up and a highly structured approach to managing
our documents and information.

The Job
As a small company with a relatively straight-forward network, we see
ourselves as an ideal candidate for part-time support by an experienced
student at UTS. That said, we take this work very seriously as we rely
heavily on our computer system for our work. You job will be to ensure that
it remains robust and operating at maximum efficiency at all times.
Professionalism, expertise and an ability to deal with others who are not IT
experts will be the primary characteristics we look for.

We would expect that you would average 5-10 hours per week in our offices,
primarily during scheduled times but with considerable flexibility. We would
also expect that you would be on call at most other times to help us deal with
emergency situations. You would be paid on a monthly basis at a rate of $25 /
hr for your work. A detailed job description would be drawn up in
consultation with you upon commencement. Our offices are located in a turn of
the century Mission Church in the residential suburb of Newtown within 2km of
UTS.
