A first cut at this can now be seen at
http://www.progsoc.uts.edu.au/about/direction.html , feedback is
welcome.
It attempts to state in general terms what ProgSoc should be doing and
is doing. It does not provide a list of things that the Executive is
undertaking to do in 1997. That is the purpose of this message.
The Executive's role is NOT to run and do everything that the society
does. We are just 5 people and our role is:
- to maintain the Society's existence
- to oversee its activities
- to maintain ProgSoc's key relationships with other people and
organisations
In 1997, the intent is that we proceed along the lines that we have been
for around 9 months:
- Improve communication between the mebership and the Executive, and
communication within the membership. Last year we started down the path
of OGMs, but they were poorly attended, so not all of the planned OGMs
were held. Given recent events, it appears likely that there is an
increased level of interest in ProgSoc's activities and that we may in
fact see people turning up and talking about things at future meetings.
Additionally, a little more focus will be placed upon ensuring that
mailing lists are kept up to date to avoid repeats of last year's
problems where numerous volunteer admins were never put to use because a
mailing list was not expanded to include the new participants.
- Completion of the automation of administration system. This will allow
various member requests (joining/renewal, password change, username
change) and user administration tasks (locking and automatic, ontime
unlocking and deletion of accounts) to be performed quickly and
reliably.
- Open up more machines for member use, including at least one on which
unlimited (not limited by the Executive) Mud activity can be undertaken.
This has been an objective for almost 2 years and is on the verge of
becoming a reality, as Geryon starts to become available for use as a
user machine, it is intended that Ftoomsh be opened up to Mud activity
by anyone who wishes to experiment with Muds.
- Facilitate and oversee any additional activities that members are
willing to spend the time to bring about. (e.g. TFM if a new editor can
be found, programming contest if someone is willing to run it and people
interested in entering it, etc.)
