Thanks to all who replied to my request. As usual the answer was right
under my nose. Among the 600 odd meg of software on the windows 95 CD are
telnet and FTP apps. The're even nice enough to install it on your hard disk
for you. I'ts a pity they're too scummy to actually print a manual that
tells you these important things (as opposed to "how to use the start
button" :-).

I think I better sit down and have a look at what is actually now on my
hard disk and on the CD (can anyone tell what switching the MS-DOS codepage
does, as there is a program to do it on the cd?).
