Can anyone elaborate on the 'bots' comment that gets displayed in
ftoomsh'es login banner? I am presuming it is a reference to IRC bots,
but perhaps it is extended to any type of user written server?
This was originally going to be a 'I am writting a server in Java, is
anyone going to argue with me if I put it on port???? on ftoomsh?' email,
but then realised that ftoomsh runs SunOS, not Solaris as is required by
the JDK (even for cmd line apps, unless someone can demonstrate otherwise).
Still I suppose one could go ahead and do something in C and sockets, in
which case, what's the rules? On the downside, it would be a job
continually using CPU cycles, and the malicious amongst us might write a
'nasty' server - on the upside anything involving tinkering at this level
is a very progsocish activity...
So, any thoughts?
regards,
james
